Hortal & Atrocities , political violence unfortunate reality in Bangladesh

Peaceful 'Hortal' is a democratic right against injustice ,but it is unethical to force people to observe it and disrupt the democratic right of a Citizen.We needed 'Hortal' before 1971 against Pakistani occupation, ,discrimination and atrocities committed by the then Government and for our language right.We are not under any foreign occupation now.Probably it is long overdue to Ban so called ' 'Hortal' for our own national interest as our businesses are affected ,international reputations are in tatters especially garments export and people are suffering from type of 'Hortal' currently imposing on public.
War crimes were committed during 9 months war of Independence by Pakistani Armies & its local collaborators in 1971.International war crime tribunal in Bangladesh is set up to investigate the atrocities committed by local collaborators.Delwar Hossein Sayeedi was found guilty of charge including murder,rape !torture during the war of Independence in 1971.He is the third person convicted and sentenced to death by the War crimes tribunal on 28/2/13.
After the sentencing of Delwar Hossain Sayeedi Jamaat unleashed the bloodiest bout of violence, Arson & destruction of public ,private properties including minorities.Attacking Police ,civilians with home made weapons in some cases arms,arson,looting ,destroying infrastructure like setting fire of train, removing train line, damaging ,bridge. As per govt figure total 67 people were killed including 7 police officers .Jamaat has shortlisted to kill 10 top Islamic Scholars and about to execute their plan but were foiled by Police.Way Jamaat continuing atrocities in an Independent Country,we can imagine what they did with Pakistany armies in 1971.Setting fire of our Mosque like Baitul Mokarram Mosque, throwing stone, cocktails from the mosque ,coming out from the mosque with sticks local weapons attacking police, civilians,assaulting it's Imam not listening to them are all against Islamic teaching ,our Islamic Scholars condemned that already.
They are burning national flag, destroying Shahid Minar,and its language movement.
It is very important to note here no independent countries in the world should allow a political party to continue politics who does not acknowledge the countries Independence,its Constitution, its national flag and Anthem,its language movement.It is long overdue to ban a party like Jamaat.
What will be the Security officers response in those circumstances. Opposition party BNP and it's ally saying it is a genocide.Lets see UN definition of genocide adopted in Dec 1948 in article"" ( II) a)systematic killing members of the group ,c)deliberately inflicting on the group condition of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part." Again lets see what is the security force role as per UN code of conduct for law Enforcement agency 17 Dec1979 in 34/169 code in "article I ) law enforcement officials shall fulfil the duty imposed upon them by law ,by serving the community and by protecting all person against illegal acts, consistent with the high degree of responsibility required by their profession.
Article "(III) Law enforcement officials may use force only when necessary & to the extent required for the performance of their duty".It is the responsibility of the Police force to ensure security for every citizen.They should be very profesional.
If we see civil disturbance around the world,in USA 1950 & Los Angeles 1992, in France Oct 2005 & Nov 2007, in Indonesia May 1998, in USA . No where security forces were able to contain violence ,unrest without casualty. In our situation what Jamaat did in Feb March 2013 ,more than thousands of activist suddenly attacking a police station with only 12 policeman on duty with sticks ,knife home made arms,and succeeding killing one police officer what rest of the Police will do tosave their life & others.When Jamaat indiscriminately burning minorities houses it is the duty of our police force to protect them.
Power of Police force lies in their right to enforce the law. Rules which govern the duties of police officers differ from country to country. In Bangladesh who ever goes to opposition calls "Hortal" the old tradition of protest but now becoming more Violent & Ugly form. In western society no such things called Hortal exist but people show their anger by protest,peaceful means without interfering others democratic rights to remain peaceful.So Police role should vary between country to country according to the nature of protest.
Opposition party BNP had lot of issues to stand for people and stay by people side ,like Government failure in some aspect ,few corrupt ministers ,like Share Market Scandal, Destiny group Scandal,Hallmark group scandal ,Quick Rental scandal,Padma Bridge corruption,Sonali Bank corruption, ?Transhipment agreement with India. Instead opposition calling Hortal for some issues not related to public interest .If they are for the people should fight for people's right.
Our people ,progressive politicians should not question about Countries birth & it's history ,All Bangladeshi's except few like Jamaat &its student form fought for our independence.
Nation now has come to a critical point. Since birth of the nation in 1971 justice were never ensured for the victim. Criminals always remain at large & who committing crimes feels they can escape justice by taking shelter under political institution. We should all come to a point & promise to help our institution to ensure proper justice for war crimes in 1971 & for all crimes afterward and stop sheltering or supporting criminals . Then only criminals will think twice about committing crimes.Culture of impunity should stop for ever & for good.
All decent people ,politician from all parties should think and act resposively to acknowledge our nation's identity.We can have different opinion in politics that is the beauty of democracy but not in regards to Razakar and their war crimes and wheather or not to procecute them.Both Govenment and opposition should practice decent politics. Government should not convict,procecute ,oppress opposition politicians unfairly at the same time opposition politicians should take a decent stand for the nation and its people.Priority should be to establish fundamental truth or democratic principle rather ' how to go to power or remain in Power. '
